5 New Ways to Experience Baguio (Oct–Nov 2026 Local Guide)

Tired of the same crowded Baguio itinerary? Here are 5 new Baguio experiences for late 2026—plus where to stay 3 mins from SM & Session Rd for 1 to 6 pax.

5 New Ways to Experience Baguio (Oct–Nov 2026 Local Guide)

Yesterday morning (Saturday, October 17), over 500 dancers and gong players from all six Cordillera provinces marched right up Harrison Road and Session Road for the 5th Cordillera Festival of Festivals. Today (Sunday, October 18), Session Road is closed to cars again—filled with chalk artists, buskers, indie zine makers, and families walking in light jackets at 17°C. And tomorrow morning (Monday, October 19), the gates finally open at the brand-new Baguio Arboretum up on Leonard Wood Road.

If you still think a Baguio trip means sitting in a taxi for 45 minutes just to buy a jar of ube jam, take one crowded photo at Mines View, and go home tired—you’re doing the old version of Baguio.

The best version of Baguio right now is slower, weirder, more creative, and 90% on foot.

Since 2020, we’ve hosted over 10,000 guests at Valencia (VOS) Baguio Transient House on 92-P Valenzuela Street—a real, clockable 3-minute walk to SM City Baguio and Session Road, and a 10-minute walk to Burnham Park. Below are five genuinely new ways to experience the city over the next few weeks, based on what I’m seeing on the streets today.

01. Do a 6:30 AM "Tree-Canopy Walk" at the New Baguio Arboretum (Opens Oct 19)

Tomorrow—Monday, October 19, 2026—Baguio opens its newest green sanctuary along Leonard Wood Road, right beside the Botanical Garden.

Most tourists will show up at 11:00 AM when the sun is high and the gates are busy. Don’t do that. The Arboretum wasn’t built to be a selfie park; it was built for forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) with an elevated boardwalk that lets you walk right through the pine and native tree canopy instead of just looking at it from the pavement.

How to Do It Like a Local:

•

Go at 6:30 AM: The gates open at 6:00 AM. Between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM, the pine needles are still damp with morning mist, the birds are actually out, and you’ll have the elevated walkway almost to yourself.

•

Use the 2-for-1 Ticket Rule: Under City Ordinance No. 18-2016, your ₱110 adult tourist ticket (₱88 for Seniors/PWDs, ₱27.50 for kids 12 and under) gets you into both the Baguio Arboretum AND the Baguio Botanical Garden next door on the same day.

•

The Route from Our Gate: From 92-P Valenzuela St., you can either walk 20 minutes along Leonard Wood Road as your morning warm-up, or walk 3 minutes to Session/Lakandula and hop on a Pacdal-Liteng jeepney for ₱13 (3–5 minutes). Enter at 177 Leonard Wood Road to hit the Arboretum gallery and boardwalk first, then cross into the Botanical Garden.

💡

Pro Tip

Keep your entry ticket after visiting the Arboretum—the same ticket gives you same-day access to the Baguio Botanical Garden right next door.

01. Do a 6:30 AM "Tree-Canopy Walk" at the New Baguio Arboretum (Opens Oct 19)

02. Join the "Ibagiw" Creative Crawl (Zines, Architecture & Treehouse Cafés)

October and November are when Baguio leans hard into its title as a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art. You don’t just look at art behind glass here—you walk into workshops, talk to the makers, and make something with your hands.

Three Creative Experiences Happening Right Now:

•

The Indie Book, Zine & Artisan Scene: Just this week, local writers, poets, and indie zine-makers kicked off the October Book and Zine Fair scene, leading straight into the Ibagiw Creative City Festival (October–November 2026) at the Baguio Convention Center and creative hubs around town.

•

Arkibagiw (Sustainable Baguio Architecture + Art Exhibit): Running through October at Greenwater (18 Loakan Rd) and moving right into SM City Baguio from November 15 to 22, 2026. Since SM Baguio is a 3-minute walk from our front door, you can literally stroll over after breakfast to see how Cordilleran architects are redesigning mountain spaces.

•

Eat Inside a Living Sculpture at Ili-Likha Artists’ Village: Skip the generic fast-food chains on Session Road. Tucked onto Assumption Road (a 5-minute walk from our house), Kidlat Tahimik’s Ili-Likha is a multi-level treehouse built from salvaged wood, mosaics, and roots. Grab a cup of local hot tsokolate or highland lunch in a nook carved into a tree trunk.

💡

Pro Tip

If you're visiting Ili-Likha, come between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM for the freshest batch of artisanal highland snacks and brewed mountain coffee.

03. Walk the 20-Minute "Golden Triangle" Before the City Wakes Up

When Mayor Magalong issued Executive Order No. 155 closing major downtown roads for yesterday’s Cordillera Festival of Festivals parade, guests with cars parked in far-flung barangays were stuck waiting for taxis. Guests staying near Upper Session Road just laced up their shoes and walked outside.

Every morning between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, I walk the same downtown loop. If you want to feel the Baguio that locals actually love, try this 20-minute route from our gate at 92-P Valenzuela St.:

•

Minute 0 to 3: Step out of Valenzuela Street, pass Upper Session Road, and catch the morning mountain view near SM City Baguio before the mall crowds arrive.

•

Minute 3 to 10: Walk downhill along Session Road. If you’re here on a Sunday (like today!), the entire road is closed to cars—no exhaust fumes, no honking, just cold air and buskers setting up. Stop at a heritage bakery or local roaster for fresh pan de sal and Benguet Arabica coffee.

•

Minute 10 to 20: Reach Burnham Park Lake. Since the lake reopened in September (with walkway upgrades continuing along parts of the perimeter this October, as noted in our Baguio in October 2026 guide), the water at 7:00 AM is dead calm like a mirror. Do one slow lap around the lake—or rent a swan boat with zero queue—before walking back up to your room for a hot shower.

💡

Pro Tip

Session Road is pedestrianized every Sunday—take advantage of car-free walking right from our front door.

03. Walk the 20-Minute "Golden Triangle" Before the City Wakes Up

04. Do the "Reverse Afternoon": Mirador Sunset + 50% Off Ube Pastries

Here is a timing trick that saves you both crowds and money.

Most tourists go to Good Shepherd at 10:00 AM (when tour vans pack the line) and Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park at midday (when the sun is harsh for photos). Flip that schedule upside down:

•

3:30 PM – Late Afternoon Pastry Run: Check out Good Shepherd Café Pastries in the late afternoon before heading up for sunset. Many travelers miss their fresh baked goods—like the Ube Cinnamon Swirl, Ube Ensaymada, and Ube Crinkles—which often go on late-afternoon markdowns (sometimes up to 50% off before closing, though go early enough because they sell out fast!).

•

4:45 PM – Bamboo Grove & Sunset at Mirador: Head up to Mirador Heritage Park (₱100 entrance, kids 12 and under free, open until 6:00 PM). Because the park faces west, the last hour between 4:45 PM and 5:45 PM gives you golden-hour light through the bamboo forest and the famous Mirador Peace Memorial Torii Gate, with far fewer people than the morning rush.

💡

Pro Tip

Catching the sunset from Mirador's Torii gate provides one of the clearest panoramic views of Lingayen Gulf and the western Benguet mountains.

05. Brew Your Own Highland Coffee (And Skip the 90-Minute Café Wait)

Everyone wants that cozy Baguio coffee moment. Nobody wants to stand outside an aesthetics-only café for an hour and a half just to pay ₱240 for a lukewarm latte.

Here is a better experience: walk down to the Baguio Public Market at the bottom of Session Road and head to the local coffee grinders (Garcia’s or Umali). For ₱100 to ₱200, they will freshly grind Benguet Arabica, Sagada Dark Roast, or Hazelnut-infused highland beans right in front of you—the smell alone is worth the walk.

Bring that warm bag of grounds back to your room at VOS Baguio Transient. Every stay with us includes access to a coffee percolator, so you can brew a pot of real Cordillera coffee, open your window to the 18°C breeze, put Netflix on the Smart TV, and actually rest.

💡

Pro Tip

Pick up fresh Benguet Arabica beans at the public market and ask for medium grind—perfect for our in-room coffee percolators.
